Capstone Internship

Life Enrichment Intern
I am currently completing my internship at Hoosier Village in Indianapolis, Indiana, a continuing care retirement community that offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing services focused on enhancing residents’ quality of life. I serve as a Life Enrichment Intern, where I assist in planning and coordinating activities that support residents’ physical, mental, and social well-being. In this role, I help develop programs, track participation, collaborate with staff across departments, and participate in care conferences and leadership meetings, which has provided me with valuable insight into healthcare operations and long-term care administration.
Primary Responsibilities and Projects
-
One of my key projects was the Resident Council, where I helped plan and lead a meeting that gave residents the opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns. I encouraged residents to speak openly and participate in discussions. I listened to and documented feedback related to different departments such as dietary, housekeeping, nursing, and activities.
-
planned and helped run individual and group activities to support residents’ physical, mental, and social well-being.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes
Throughout my internship, I learned to be more confident in myself and to trust that I am capable of handling new challenges and responsibilities. I was expected to support resident engagement, work collaboratively with staff, and contribute to the overall well-being of residents. I met these expectations by staying engaged, taking initiative in activities and projects, and being open to learning from those around me. This experience showed me that I have what it takes to succeed I just needed to believe in myself and be confident.
Resident Council Meeting
The goal was to strengthen communication between residents and staff while ensuring residents felt heard and valued in their community.
Banna Split Gathering

One example of my involvement was helping organize a banana split social in the activities room, which residents really enjoyed and had a great turnout.
